Renditions are old, let's face it. The rendition server is based on Interplot Organizer, and has been out of touch with the pace of other Bentley technology for many years. Bentley, please update Renditions to use the MicroStation Power Platform, enabling many amazing new features that will surely delight people around the world who rely on this service to automate PDF creation.
1. Renditions will be able to use .pltcfg files. This is what everyone else in the Bentley world is using to govern pdf creation. This improves usefulness big time.
2. Renditions will be able to engage in meaningful ways with item types, which are already slated to replace tag sets in Projectwise 2023.
3. Renditions would be setup to benefit from all future enhancements to MicroStation, wherever our imagination would take us!
- Geolocation?
- Synchro Integration?
- ArcGIS Connections?
- Future integration with sheet index?
- 3D pdfs?
Let's start by just getting the base of Bentley's ICS server moved to the MicroStation platform. It will feel more modern on day 1, and many new things may also come out of this.
